If you like me were trying to play through this game with a friend and wanted to use your own VOIP and found it a nightmare to disable the in game voice then do this. If you have literally anything with a microphone jack, doesn't matter if it's a speaker, another headset or a cut off cord, plug it into your line in jack on your motherboard/soundcard. After you do this go into your sound options > recording tab and set your 'line in' as your default communication device, then go into the Steam settings for voice and set your microphone as this device.
